My project at the Fogler was to make high dpi scans of early 20th century Maine outdoor sporting images. In scouting around the collection I ran across a large collection of Maine Civil War paper. It seems that during the 1950's to 70's  this fellow had purchased every scrap of paper that had to do with Maine and the Civil War. When he died in the 1980's his widow gave this large collection to the University Library.
