AND WHAT THE NEIGHBORHOOD LOOKED LIKE
BUT THE IMAGES DEMAND NAMES
These two ca 1940 pictures came from Foster Carlow, JR. Maybe his
grandmother Ethel Hunnewell took these images, the images were found
in her collection.

Here we have a group of children standing in the middle
of the Airline Road ca 1940. They are facing west and into the
afternoon sun. In the background we see Charles Aylward’s Store
painted white and Floyd and Ethel (Knowles) Hunnewell’s house
with the metal roof.
We are quite sure we recognize (back row, left to right) Clarice Cousins, Rena McArthur, Audrey Hunnewell, Freda Perkins and Carroll Niles. The first two in front we don’t know, but think the little girl is Mildred Hunnewell. Glenna Cousins is next to Erlin Perkins.

This photo was likely taken on the same day. Here we see the ball
field with Lindsay Varnum’s barn in the background. The camera
looks north from the Airline and the kids are looking into the sun.
Viewers will see no leaves on the trees and no utility poles along
the roads.
That probably is Arthur Perkins in the middle of the back row and Douglas “Dukey” Hunnewell in the bike. The little girl in front and the boy on the left are unknown. The three girls in the middle might be Mildred Hunnewell, Phyllis Perkins and Geneva Perkins. Note we have two Mildreds, which can’t be right. Clarice Cousins Perkins and Austin Frost helped, but we need more help with names for the Four Corners Scholars.
