The most Northern point in New Zealand
Here it is believed is where the all of the Maori spirits depart. The dramatic vista and steep meandering walkways add a welcoming respect to this place.
Also at this very point the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean causing turbulent conditions that challenge even some of the best sailors.
It was a long ride up this peninsular with much of it "unsealed" - unpaved. But, we wanted to see the length and breadth of this country, and are glad we made the days journey. This northern peninsula's west coast is one long beach called "ninety mile beach" , but it is only 60 miles long. Rental cars are forbidden , but there are tour busses that make the trip.
