On Friday, August 7th,
The 1996 Pulitzer Prize Winning author, Alan Taylor will speak here
in Whitefield as part of our Bicentennial celebration.
Dr. Taylor's Pulitzer was awarded in history.
He is the author
of several popular and important books on Maine's history, including
Liberty
Men and Great Proprietors: The Revolutionary Settlement on the Maine
Frontier, 1760-1820, among others.
Alan Taylors ground breaking primary research
into the history of the area surrounding and including
Whitefield (Balltown) helped create a more accurate , detailed
and exciting image of our beginnings. From "White Indian"
battles to development of the Kings Mills water privilege by
Boston Lawyers, our history comes alive through his lucid
writing.

Mr. Taylor was
born in Portland and is a graduate of Colby College (1977), and
received his Ph.D. from Brandeis University (1986).
