You’re invited to add your touch to

Whitefield’s

Bicentennial Art Project

Under the direction of community mural artist extraordinaire Natasha Mayers, students at Whitefield School will create an 8’x12’ mural map of Whitefield showing current and historic places, events, people and activities. This mural will be framed by a border of 84 - 6x6” illustrated ceramic tiles created by Whitefield residents.

Join a tile-making workshop to create a ceramic tile illustrated with your own picture of what Whitefield means to you.

You’re invited to a

Tile Painting Party

at the Whitefield School

Choose your most convenient time

Monday, June 1, 1:30-3:30 p.m.

or

Sunday, June 7, 1:00 – 4 p.m.

No art experience needed, just one hour of your time.

It will take you about 1 hour to paint an image on a 6”x6” tile. Bring a photo or drawing of something that is special to you about Whitefield, or use one available at the workshop. Rachel Hamlin will show you how to draw or trace your image onto a tile and then paint it.

The tiles will be used to create a border for the Bicentennial mural (you may get a sneak preview). We need to paint 84 tiles – your help is appreciated.

This project is funded in part by a grant from the Maine Humanities Council and the Maine Arts Commission.

Rachel Hamlin (ceramics artist and Whitefield School art teacher) and Genevieve Keller (artist and Windsor School art teacher) will offer two tile-making workshops later this Spring. If you want to be notified of the dates of these workshops, please contact
Carole Cifrino at E-Mail
or call her at 582-0448.
